some years ago I went to a concert with The McCalmans and wrote a “poem talk” in Danish, I have translated it now more than 4 years after:

The concert was a birthday gift
I was delighted looking forward to this event
To use a modern word, at least in Danish.
After a long drive
We arrived at Holstebro.
A small beer at Fox & Hounds
We had the time.
Later we found the place me and my soul mate,
Knudsen’s a small cozy venue
Moreover recently restored.
We came into the hall -
It was here we realized
Was it really the right place?
Well it was the right place.
We looked at our fellow audience for this concert
And our doubt came back.
Was this really McCalmans on the poster?
We came in
And the musicians came on stage
Well luckily it was McCalmans
That means it took a while to recognize Ian and Nick
Ian’s gray hair – Nick’s a bit squared body
But the sound – voices did not disappoint.
Then it dawned on me
We were among the mature audience with some of their favorite musicians
They looked older – maybe even older -
I wonder how did we look?
It is time to admit, albeit reluctantly
We did not get any younger ourselves.
We follow time
We are older – yes
But our minds are still young
And that is good -
And if Mike Jagger
Can jerk around on stage
In his retirement
at full blast of his youth music
Then we can maintain our youth by listening to the music from our youth.
And despite age
our mind is what counts.

After this poem-talk I made a Haiga, going to yet another concert or rather a festival, we call it “Late Summer Rock” 2010, and one of the bands was “copy” band (a sound like band) the Led Zeppelin Jam. Under this concert I stood again among the fans of late Led Zeppelin from 1970’teens and the only difference was the gray hair, but the delight of the sound was the same.

in corridors
of memory lane
Led Zeppelin
jam the remembering’s

Closed eyes
sensing the Sun,
light thunder of waves meeting shore,
salt of the sea and north wind
easing my forehead.
I sit amongst
dead seaweed, uninhabited shells
and pebbles from ice age no less -
in itself an excellent place
to tell the world right good bye
a handful of sand
as the hourglass
disappears quietly -
I open my eyes and see
my hand
still with grit
caught by moisture and wrinkles.
The time is not yet, it seems
still tasks to perform
so I turn the hourglass
and give it another chance

Med lukkede øjne
at fornemme solen,
brændingens lette torden
havets salt og den lindrende nordlige vind
lindrinde over panden.
Sidde her blandt
dødt tang, ubeboede skaller og
småsten fra istiden -
i for sig et udmærket sted
at sige verden ret farvel
en håndfuld sand
som timeglasset
det forsvinder stille og roligt
væk er sandet -
jeg åbner øjet og ser
hånden
stadig med sandskorn
fanget af fugt og rynker.
Tiden vist ikke inde endnu
stadig opgaver at varetage
så jeg vender timeglasset
og giver det endnu en chance

A song line can be the start of a movement – true.

We shall overcome and you know the rest.
It’s amazing what a simple song prior to the famous one can become.
from “I will overcome” to “We will overcome” derived from gospel song it was published in 1947 by Charles Albert Tindley. Eventually Zilphia Horton taught it to Pete Seeger. He and many others included it in their repertoire. At one point, maybe Pete Seeger, it changed from “will” to “shall”. It’s very much a collected contribution of many in this song.

As you know the lyrics says “We shall overcome someday” at which you could say “someday has been said for thousands’ of years” this someday gives the hope, if one said “next week” it would be promise, one that couldn’t be kept.

To know
what you are
who you are
what you can
what you feel
you will overcome
we shall overcome
someday
even, this has been said
in a thousands’ years
every tributaries
from I to We
will lead
from violent
to peacefully action
to a free people
I ain’t afraid – she sang
of what you say, believe
or how you live
I’m afraid of
what you do
in the name of your God

Though we shall overcome – someday
it might be a bloody road ahead

We shall overcome
we shall overcome
someday
keep an eye on the price
can we pay – someday

-

she sang: Holly Near

Went to the job center – something I have to do -
I know it’s not giving much work, at least all the unemployed hold the few at work, with meeting and paperwork, telling the same old story – we have no work for you – have you tried all the places? – oh yeah I write at least twice a week application and send them to all corners of the world – most answers blow in the wind telling me, how many wrote an application, and that another got the job anyway.

Selling me is the issue they say – well I’m not good at that, never been – I’m not sure it’s only me that have this problem – selling yourself is a global issue to be heard, seen and have success attending reality shows, doing things online for all to see. Playing a role on Robinson Island, at Paradise Hotel or whatever – actually I think life is too short for reality shows – it’s hard to defy a valid set of life value (codex) and only a few can say they found it – I wonder.
Last night I was looking at YouTube and found that old folksinger friends more or less missing, and I know a few of them is dead between then and now. So in this downhill of emotion Kate & Anna McGarrigle sang Petite Annonce and I found out that Kate has passed away since last I checked. All this – advertising , selling yourself , passed friends makes you wonder – where do I stand? – literally, do I live as I should or has there been times where another choice could have made it different? – to make that a simple answer: yes. But I didn’t make the choice. We are, what we are, and that’s it. Just make the best of it – and stick to it, at least for those close by, it would mean everything.

I.e. my soul mate made her choice for a reason, not for what I might have been, if…, or might become, but for what I was.

Petite annonce: Valentine day

roll the dice once more
for life

There was a discussion a little while ago about thunder & lightning in the past, present and future.
Remembering the thunder & lightning in the past as rather impressive events and treated with respect and awe.

Remembering that when we in 1963 moved from a southern town to a more northern town it seems to have more thunder & lightning, we still treated it with the respect as one should do, with this kind of nature’s magnificent events.

Up to the present days when in short time there has been two lightning strikes – one on a golf course and one on a soccer ground. The first one deadly, and the second is still in debate between the doctors and the masters above.

Our discussion ran along the line whether man was growing reckless, thinking we do as we please, and do it regardless of that nature is a powerful force, not to taken lightly.

Only fools
defy a true force of nature
thunder and lightning
